  An ex of mine, decades ago told me &quot; you need a hobby &quot;. &nbsp;That got me into chainmail. &nbsp; My first experience with stamps was when I was young and my Dad let me put US stamps in mounts and add them to his albums in the 80s. &nbsp;I loved doing that! &nbsp; When he said he was willing his collection to my brothers, who never had an interest, I was so hurt. Luckily I convinced him to entrust me w/ the care of them. &nbsp;Turns out, it was a worthless mess that took years to organize...but the learning/ focus and distraction from my back pain was a blessing. &nbsp;<br>Yrs later and I still adore it. &nbsp;I spent last week watching an auction for a few albums I really wanted. &nbsp;Set my timer....but somehow didn&apos;t hear it. &nbsp;It was meant to be because a big tree just fell on my garage and if I had spent my $ on stamps, I couldn&apos;t afford to get this removed 🙄 &nbsp;<br>The best part about collecting stamps is that ( even if you can&apos;t get new ones), there are endless opportunities to learn about the ones you have. <br>My other hobby is gardening. &nbsp;To be honest, I&apos;d rather focus on stamps today than pit and freeze lbs of cherries, pick/ clean/ wash and blanch bushels of spinach, and pick peas for hours...and weed. &nbsp;<br>Stamps will have to wait for a rainy day. &nbsp;Then I can have a nice meal of homemade Palak Paneer and work on them and think &apos;Life is good&apos;.<br>Thanks for your videos!   It was nice to hear your story and thank you for sharing. I was back to collecting stamps after many years and I decided to start my youtube channel (Great Stamp Adventure inspired me for this :) ). It was good decision because I met a lot of collectors and I learn a lot every day from them. This community on youtube is amazing.

  My sentiments exactly. I too collect purely for the pleasure it brings. I collect Australia (my home country), New Zealand, Austria, Netherlands, Germany, Vatican City, Czechoslovakia, Canada, Berlin, Christmas Island, Cocos Keeling Islands and trains on stamps.

  Started when I started volunteering at Postal Museum in Washington DC. Good video. We have to thank Mrs. Smokey for your stamp interest. &nbsp;And microcountries are cool. Visited a few.

  I started collecting stamps with my Dad back in the 1950s and 1960s. Fun thing to do wtith Dad. I stopped after I got to high school in the late 1960s. Kept buying him things for his collection until he died too young at the age of only 66. I have his collecton here somewhere and need to find it &amp; pull it out again. These days, I collect &amp; use stamps that appeal to me from their colors or topics. I use mint stamps to mail letters &amp; postcards. I also use stamps in my planner &amp; art journals &amp; to make art tags and ATCs, which are Artist Trading Cards. Stamps are little works of art. Thanks for this video, Smokey.
