LOVE it...however. I would think that heavy lug screws would be much better than carriage bolts in many of the applications here (side planking, etc). The wood will be expanding with humidity/water contact, etc and don't forget, aging. Big, heavy lug screws will always have a secure and intensely strong connection where bolts (and washers) tightened to the wood will, without exception, loosen in time, via grain compression and wood shrinkage. But in any event, these are truly master-craftsman of a by-gone era in the west. Wood ships are really works of art, we can see here. :)
