Five Painters Almost Forgotten | Art History Binge No 2

For you Art History lovers who like a binge- watch! This is a curated collection of five previously released Shoot The Moon documentaries, brought together as one art history binge. These are not five new films. Christian Rohlfs had 412 works seized from German museums by the Nazis. Marianne von Werefkin helped build modern Expressionism while better-known men took the credit. Helene Schjerfbeck became a national treasure in Finland but remained far less familiar elsewhere. Franz Sedlacek vanished on the Eastern Front, and Felix Nussbaum painted his own persecution while hiding from the people hunting him. Their stories are different, but each shows how censorship, war, geography and the art establishment can push an artist towards disappearance. Watch the collection in order or use the chapters below to move between artists. Love overlooked artists and the stories behind them?
