From my matches experience there are two kind of players. Which like to create or respond. Then I try to do opposite thing to them. Higher I go with level of tournaments ITF 700 or 1000 harder it’s to make them do what they don’t like and many times they will adjust for that.

Let’s teach kids do what others don’t like instead of just teach them hit good or spots on court. Let’s teach them to READ OPPONENTS. (Do they like run?, what is their favorite shot (and take it away from them), are they fit? Do they like net game? Do they like slower or faster pace? Do they like higher balls? Are they bothered if I come to net? Are they better way behind the baseline or inside of the court? …..

Many times I see kids play pretty good (good technique, good footwork, hitting spots, trying to stay positive), but they do what others like. That will not get in opponent’s head. And match is much harder to win.

Small point about using “ABC” for serve direction: it translates easily into “123” which makes signals much easier in doubles!
