Racism is everywhere. As you get older you learn to accept it as a part of life. The only question is where is there less of it and to what extreme is it..

I felt like I was treated poorly when I visited Bogota. A lot of the locals thought I was Venezuelan, because of my medium skin color. Felt worse than in the USA. Very weird. Medellin people were friendlier

I really appreciate this video. As a Black man from the U.S. living in Colombia for over six years, a lot of what you said resonated with me deeply.
I’ve built a tech company here a restaurant reservation app and have been doing business in this space for several years now. One thing you said that really hit home was about how difficult it is to build something here without real connections. Even when you do make connections, a lot of them can feel very superficial. People smile, say the right things, but there’s often no real intention to support or follow through.
For me, the racism here hasn’t been loud or overt. It’s subtle. It’s in the doors that don’t open, the delays, the extra friction, the way systems seem to quietly work against you. I agree with you completely when you said it’s rarely said to your face, but you can feel it. And if you’re not paying attention, it’s easy to convince yourself it doesn’t exist.
That said, I don’t let it stop me. If anything, it pushed me to get more creative. That’s one of the reasons I started creating content as another funnel to reach restaurants and build visibility for what I’m doing. Adaptation is survival.
Thank you for speaking on this honestly. Conversations like this matter, especially for people considering moving here or building something long term. Respect for sharing your truth.

Your vids are a breath of fresh air. I spend a lot of time in Colombia, and I get tired of the “don’t be flashy, always wear pants” type of videos. Your insights are very interesting and useful.

As an African American who grew up in Riverside, California, has been to Colombia twice and recently lived in Mexico for 2 years. You are spot on with this. Keep doing your thing. Saludos 🫡

I am an American my wife is a Calena. One day about two years ago, I asked a taxi driver in Cali what Colombians think about Americans. He said they thought we are all pedophiles. I was shocked but glad to hear the truth. I feel like we *(The USA) should be enforcing our laws effectively. I love the spirit of Colombians. I grew up on a farm with my Native American Great Grandmother, we always had to make things happen no matter what we had and Cali, Cordoba they have that in spades.

I’m Korean American and I visit Medellín frequently. I’ve experienced a few minor issues but for me the vast majority of Paísas have treated me well.

Pero, yo puedo hablar español y mi experience fue mas tranquilo por este. I’ll be back next month.
