Normalization across all platforms is a hot mess, they need to standardize it .

To be honest, atp just focus on making a good song rather than how loud it is. Our mind plays a really fun trick that once you get hooked on a song, you remember clearly how it goes. So even when the volume is so low, hearing only a fraction of that song still helps you enjoy it because your brain automatically fills in the void.

I was making verses quieter before streaming services even existed... It just makes the chorus have more impact and lets the verses breathe more dynamically

From the bottom of my heart, I don't care. There will always be someone with a slightly bigger bicep than me in the gym, there will always be someone with a slightly louder mix than me next to me in a playlist. We still ended up on the same playlist at the end of the day, and that's on purpose.

Great insights as usual. I always wondered why mastering engineers stuck to -8 LUFS ranges when all platforms have normalizations per default. It's likely a combination of label heads just wanting a simple one master setup as you said, but also mastering engineers pushing for the louder masters since creating these loud masters has always been the "magic" they charge for.

Good video. Can anyone please explain what specific steps were done to achieve master version 1 from the clip? Is there any trick besides pulling back low end and adding to the mid-high frequencies as he described? Thanks in advance.
