8ft and under mostly unregulated by code in Johnson City, NY, but don't attempt an out house they want you to use the city water and sewer in the village limits. 7ft minimum-ceiling hight to be habitable its possible to do it in village limits

So move out to the middle of nowhere and live in a shed. Great plan. This is only good for someone who already owns property and wants to add a little hang out space. There are a lot of places letting people add a small living space they could maybe rent to someone in need of a modest living situation. That's good news for people struggling to pay insane tax and insurance bills.
