The issue with the scent trail in the game is that it's a navigation trail, not a scent trail. For example, during the segment(s) where you're tracking Jean Grey, the trail follows the path that LOGAN would take to get somewhere, guiding the player along the path that Wolverine would take to get from A to B, but the trail is supposed to represent the path that JEAN took to get to her target. Jean can fly: why would she need to jump onto, and slide down, a telephone pole? The in-game explanation for why the scent trail exists just falls apart in practice.

4:26 I should stress here that by “breaking out of bounds”, they mean “jumping over one building that’s walling in the fart trail.” They didn’t even put invisible walls in front of them.

"...it dips its dick in multiple pies but doesn't have the balls to go full shaft." Y'know, still probably not the worst sentence that's been said. I'm sure you've said worse.

10:58 - I would argue that if you can't justify the costs to fully develop a mechanic, you should not include that mechanic.

I think the game was called Never Dead where you were some immortal hero who was basically a mercenary, idk I put like 5 hours into it and it's been over a decade. But the way they dealt with his immortality is that his body could be blown apart and, while he could just pull himself together, special monsters constantly spawned that would eat his head. Their stomachs were basically like a bottomless hole so if he got swallowed, he was screwed and that was the primary game over state.

There are so many things they could have done for a fail state animation in the QTE's that don't have him dying if they wanted to keep the illusion of immortality. Like for the truck scene for example. They already made two different animations for that exact scene. If you press the button, he grabs the winch cable and avoids the tires. But if you don't press the button, he still grabs the winch cable, but he gets run over by the tires (unharmed, of coure). But they could have made it so if you don't press the button, he fails to grab the winch hook, gets run over by the truck (unharmed, of course) and is left behind in the mud while the truck gets away. The screen cuts to black and you get a message that reads "SKULLCRUSHER ESCAPED WITH THE MUTANTS! TRY AGAIN" or something.

i think it's that it's not only a light up trail, but also white paint pointing all over telling you where to go, and also a hud marker on the screen of where to go on top.

just one of those would've been fine

The scent trails might have worked if the mechanic were less obvious. Realistically, Logan would perceive multiple smells at once when he's tracking someone and would need to filter out unwanted scents in order to focus on his target. The game could give the player multiple scent trails from various sources and allow the player to infer which one was correct.

"Adorable Adventures" has a better scent mechanic AND you play a cute piglet that squeaks if you hit a wall.

... QTEs that don't fail when you don't do them, should just not exist. There's no point to them if they don't do anything for failure. Just make it a damn cutscene and move on so we're not wasting time with slowing down for 'QTE'.

Not sure it matters but i have noticed while playing if you fail the QTEs wolverine tends to get badly injured in some vs success on the QTE. But to JM8s point im not really sure that translates to decreased health once the actions starts back up.

I enjoy the game and (generally) like QTEs but this is definitely a game that seems to be fighting itself at times!
