I'm so glad this video is here. The misconceptions are so damaging to people who actually have ocd. People who like things neat and say 'oh I'm so ocd' is just ridiculous and such a slap in the face to people dealing with real ocd. People don't understand how awful it is and how destructive it is to your life and the people around you. Especially that we logically know what we are thinking is factually inaccurate and a lot of times impossible. Knowing it doesn't make sense but still feeling controlled by it is extremely stressful.

As a mental health professional, I've really appreciated the way this series has treated mental illnesses. I would love to see more, especially about bipolar, borderline, and schizophrenia

My son started his OCD compulsions at about 7 years old. He called his compulsions 'impulses' and he HAD to do them. He also told me he hated his compulsions. It broke my heart. OCD is not keeping things neat, it can be debilitating. It still keeps him paralyzed. He is 19.
Thank you for posting this video.

The hardest part (for me personally) when explaining my ocd, and trying to verbalize the reasons for my rituals, is I KNOW it sounds like nonsense. It’s such a frustrating feeling when I’m fully aware that the thoughts that are causing me to feel overwhelmed and require these little rituals to calm down, are usually completely absurd.

The worst part about Monk was the fact that in one episode, he took a pill, and magically, his"ocd" stopped, and he became someone else

The worse thing is the self awareness but still unable to stop it. I’ve found having a structure routine to be the most helpful and I’d liked the bit you said about normal people making sense of your behaviour unaware to the fact that you have OCD, very frustrating but I’ve got over it myself in time mostly.

OCD is now everywhere in my life. From drinking and eating to opening or closing and touching even during me studying and right now while i am typing god knows how hard it is for me to type something to my dear ones with sweaty hands to my heartbeat. My OCD keeps changing its form turns from words to images and the other forms. I wanna hug someone but then i just can't. It is so so so hard. I wish i could eliminate this problem from everyones' lives forever. I just know that what i rhink of and what i do is just not real and ridiculous. But then i cannot fight it back. Sometimes i wish i could turn off my mind for some peace and quiet.
I know it is cliché but let me tell you this. I call these thoughts thieves, they wanna steal your happiness, your time and your calmness. Just try to ignore them as much as you can. I wish you all and myself a happy and calm life.

Such a needed video. It's always difficult having to explain that you do a certain thing not because you like it but because you "have" to, or otherwise something bad will happned (like she said in the video)

I have ADHD, but something you said really resonated with me. The fact that your OCD self needs love and care just like any other part of you. But also balancing the knowledge that it does impact your life in ways you may want to change. I think I reached a point where I no longer wish I didn't have ADHD (most days), but I'm still trying to find the middle ground of loving the strengths it gives me while not hating nor ignoring the aspects that don't serve me. I also have a sibling with OCD, and while I understand it a lot better than I used to, videos like this really help me understand how much is going on inside the brain that I can't see.
