  The big food companies are killing us, time to start making our own again, back to basics, sod these big food companies!! <br>Not just for bread, everything has been destroyed by these major food companies.

  I was a baker in the 70s and no way was dough raised for 12 to 16 hours. &nbsp;A couple of hours in the steam proving room and then into the oven was the method and we only used traditional ingredients.

  A lot of people never pay attention to bread ingredients until they compare supermarket bread with bakery-style bread side by side. The difference can be surprisingly noticeable.

  The smell of bread in a supermarket is fake. &nbsp;I remember walking past the doorway of a supermarket and there was a delicious smell of fresh bread. I went in and followed my nose to the back of the shop. There were shelves of bread, but they were cold, so hardly hot out of the oven. I realised the smell was false, just to entice customers in, and they might even buy something while in the shop. I am now very careful about bread.

  roughly 20 years ago I was having a great deal of trouble with my throat, swelling on the inside which showed through to the outside which made it impossible at times to lie down, it came to my attention that there was something called celiac disease, so I looked into it, I then came to the conclusion I was not a celiac but perhaps had a gluten intolerance so, I gave up ALL gluten and what ho! all my problems disappeared. &nbsp;<br>Around five months later I tried a slice of homemade bread, hmm... No problems, ate homemade bread two to three times a week, still no problems so I thought my worries had all gone away, ate three slices of supermarket bread, one of the better known brands and ALL of my troubles came back. &nbsp;SO! I did more research telling google what had happened and loads of results came back as to what the problem might be.<br>It turns out there is soooo many chemicals that go into our bread now, things to make it whiter, to make it softer, to make it prove faster to bake quicker, I&apos;ve never eaten another slice of supermarket bread since and I&apos;m better off for it.

  So the answer is to shop in M&amp;S or Waitrose and be middle income. Who would&apos;ve guessed?

  Stopped eating bread 🍞 in August 2025 . Quit all pharmacy drugs , I feel so much better .

  A very well known food store at the Merry Hill shopping centre in the West Midlands has unwrapped bread sticks in bins at ground level. These are positioned at a narrow main entrance such that many hands contact them.
