  Sunflower will produce almost twice as much protein per acre than amaranth. Due to the prolific seeding of amaranth they work as greens for chicken and they will grow in the shade of sunflower. Let the sunflowers grow 2-3ft high so chickens won&apos;t kill them. Then seed amaranth. Once the amaranth gets a little bigger than just sprouts (so chicken don&apos;t destroy it all) let the chickens browse and eat the amaranth sprouts. Save a handful of amaranth from chicken access and let it go to seeds for next year. You can do multiple successive amaranth plantings if you save enough seeds. Other things that will grow well in the shade of sunflowers: cowpeas, buckwheat (for greens not grains), malabar spinach, millet, and mint family like lemon balm, mint, and oregano.

  Ohmygosh!!! I LOVE THIS!!<br>I “happened” to plant a mulberry tree just two weeks ago!<br>In my refrigerator, I’m stratifying about 100 comfrey seeds.<br>Sunflower patch in the works.<br>Amaranth is on my “purchase” list and I will add calendula and stinging nettle! I was in in the process as I wanted these for my family! Didn’t know chickens could thrive on these!<br><br>I screenshot all the 8 and I will add to my list!<br>I didn’t know these could feed my flock and replace the oh-so-expensive organic layer feed I’ve been purchasing for years!<br><br>I’m so excited and am sharing this video on my FB farm and garden &nbsp;groups!<br><br>Thank you for this incredibly valuable information!!<br>😁🙏❤️

  I would add Pigeon peas, they are great for the soil (nitrogen fixers) and will keep producing (in a hot area) for years. We love them, and the chickens love them. I also feed my chickens pumpkins, winter squash and lots of cabbages (a favorite of them).
