Utility worker here! Be assured, we have meteorologists watching solar weather all the time, so if something happens we can shut everything off. It would be an inconvenient outage, but a few hours/a day is better than years.

I remember hearing it in sydney Australia, i kept looking around wondering what was that loud bang. Realised later on that the volcano had erupted and the sound wave would've passed by sydney around the time i heard the bang. Its wasnt a normal bang and it wasnt so powerful that my ears were ringing, the sound felt like it was all aound me at the same time. This world is amazing.

When I was a child, living in Cedar Rapids Iowa back in the mid 1960's, there was a lightning storm moving through the area. I was lying awake watching the room briefly light up each time there was a strike. Suddenly a ball of light came through a window on one side of the room and went out through the window on the other side of the room without damaging either window. The ball was white, and about the size of a basket ball, and lit up the room as bright as day. I still enjoy a good thunderstorm to this day, and actually love to fall asleep listening to the thunder.

I heard Hunga Tonga–Hunga Haʻapai pop living here in Brisbane ... was a series of bangs around 3pm (Brisbane time), that made me stop and listen thinking it may have been rifle shots or a gas explosion nearby ... wasn't until later that evening I realised what it was!<br>3000+km away!!

That very well could have been the longest intro to a video on YouTube I’ve EVER seen. Well done sir, well done!

I was in northern NSW Australia when the shockwave from Tonga hit, it was audibly distinct from thunder.

Man I’d like to see a video about all the tectonic activity lately. It’s left me wondering what’s going on.
