To slightly add on: one of the challenges with publicly traded companies is that your growth is really competing with the growth of other companies. If the company is only growing 5% but the rest of the market is growing 10%, the investor thinks “why shouldn’t I move my investment to higher earning companies”?

I appreciate Jason telling his audience that it's not that bad people are in charge, it's that the system is entirely irrational almost top to bottom. We can't really fix the financial woes of the industry without realizing that it exists in a context where creating good product is secondary to selling the most product, or just reducing costs in any way you can
