  As someone who used to be a weird, meek little black girl obsessed with cats, this movie spoke to me on a spiritual level. It molded a chunk of my personality. And I am now a weird black adult who is still obsessed with cats and is learning to stand up for myself just like the main character of this movie did. Unfortunately I have to do it without the help of immortal egyptian cats.

  first time watched your OG cat woman video i watched it laying on my mommy’s floor, hitting my dab pen lol. today like a year later, i watch this smoking a j, at my granny’s house surrounded by pictures of my mommy. we lost her last August to a DV attack by my step dad. She loved movies, and she loved halle berry. you might not see this comment, but i want it to be public information that your channel has helped save me after the brutal loss of her. i rewatch these videos everyday, and I remember how much my mom loved watching movies, just like you and I. thank you zane, your passion for film has helped me through this rough time.

  I got a black cat about two months ago and I can wholeheartedly say she is one of the best pets I&apos;ve ever owned. And I wasn&apos;t planning on getting a black cat but when I met her I knew she was it. She&apos;s bonded with me so quickly and is the cuddliest thing ever. She stands in my doorway when I&apos;m showering and getting ready - protecting me. She growls and goes into protector mode all the time when we&apos;re together. And she absolutely despises men. Freaks the fuck out and goes into hiding whenever one&apos;s around. I love her.

  So fascinating the idea of &quot;cosmetic horror&quot; because that&apos;s what The Substance is about, and think about Mother Goethel from Tangled, it&apos;s all the same, trying to capture what is essentially a potion to hold onto youth and beauty. They all must keep using it, IOW keep buying into the beauty myth, keeping literally buying creams, serums, masks, poisons, to desperately hold onto looking like we&apos;re 23. Literally think about how much time and money women invest in looking desirable to men. What if we used those resources toward other ends? No shade to women who enjoy cosmetics and use it as a form of self expression, self love. I love that so much. For me, I told myself I would never let not looking beautiful and made-up keep me from leaving the house. <br><br>I also think this movie was quite diverse for its time. Two POC as the romantic leads, against two powerfully rich white people. Her BFF is a plump, short woman (who lands a hot doctor, by the way). An Asian man is one of the body guards and not like, the computer hacker. Even the magical witchy guide/oracle is a white woman, a fun reversal on the &quot;Magical Negro&quot; trope. &nbsp;She could have been the only POC in the whole movie, but she wasn&apos;t. I personally love this movie and think you have a thoughtful take.

  Agreed. They could have gone much darker with the “vanity” aspect and the horror aspect.
