I still can't believe how we're getting such great content for free on YouTube. You're a LEGEND MAN.

idk if it is just me but I feel like media/film in general has been a lot more quick paced these past few years. The need to process information quickly and progress through plot fast takes away from the film than add to it; there is no room to take a breather or process what just happened, maybe it's just me though.

I learned more about editing in this 10 minute video than I learned about editing in a book about editing at my library.

This is interesting. I'm a painter and what I've been noticing is that all art forms are created by 2 things: the parts and their relationships (i.e. a note to chord to composition, a color to form to painting, etc.). Basically, you have to make sure that the parts themselves are masterfully done, but also that they fit together well into a competent whole. So when you and Khan say that you do it one piece at a time, at what stage do you "retrofit" or "reconnect" the pieces back together, or are all the pieces created with the whole in mind from the beginning?

I remember a scene from Drive where the two main characters are thinking of each other, and they put that on film by simply giving the characters a vague dreamy expression and by cutting to each other. That was a really powerful scene achieved only through editing

Having seen Antman and remembering that failure-scene, when I was watching it, it felt like he wasn't even trying. However, at the time, it felt like he was supposed to seem like he's not trying. He seemed like that kind of character. So I didn't believe the emotion but I didn't think for even a 24th-25th of a second that I was supposed to believe it.
But perhaps it really was a failure to properly communicate.

I actually thought it was done fine in the Ant-Man. He wasn't really trying. He was like "Fuck it, they're not listening". He didn't really give it a chence.
