Kia & Hyundai Sued By Over 200 Insurance Companies, Could Other Car Makers Be Next?

A buddy of mine who was a police officer in the 80's, through 2015 said many times that GM should have been sued for the crappy column ignition switches. These ignition locks were a joke in the seventies and eighties. A pair of vice grips and a screw driver was all you needed to steal one of their cars.

I could steal a 70s-90s Japanese car with a flat screw driver. 60s-70s Mopars only had about 17 key codes. GM and Ford only had 30 or so. It’s always been a problem

The real problem here is people and their character

The far left loons started this by suing Hyundai for easy vehicle theft instead of arresting the criminals themselves.

Every car I owned for 1971 till the one I bought in 2025 had similar switches, yet no one sued GM or Ford or Chrysler etc

The Tazer alarm system works really well. My car would have been stolen over 15 times had it not been for that.

A good old fashioned key worked for years.

It’s the WIN module. Wireless Ignition Node.

Always the shit insurance companies who get money back, not the poor people who lost their cars, but a crock of crap

I have also heard of Hondas being stolen/broken into in places such as California, Baltimore, and Philadelphia as well. Mainly they are Accords, Civics, and CRVs.

For every wall built there will be another creating a method of bypassing or destroying it entirely. For every innovation made in vehicle security there will inevitably be someone somewhere working on a way to get past it. Which then begs the question is it really any auto manufacturer's fault that people are devising ways to bypass their security measures?

Moreover, is it really Amazon's fault someone is misusing a tool they sell? Are we going to start suing Target everytime a kitchen knife is misused as well? Legal precedent can be a Pandora's Box. Just saying is all.

Though, I do agree that there needs to be tighter protocols in place when it comes to gaining access to key codes. Software cracks open doors typically only available through registered paywalls. It shouldn't be THAT easy, but it is. Like I said in the beginning, for every wall created there will inevitably be someone devising a way to break it down.

It’s pretty easy to steal a wrangler. Just unzip a window.
