  People keep complaining that it only puts out slightly better numbers than the powerstroke but I love a detuned engine that should be more durable. If only GM can figure out their transmissions it could be the best HD truck on the market.

  I will be impressed when their engines and transmissions dont grenade. People want reliability, serviceability and peace of mind. Hopefully these new drivetrains deliver.

  Some people complain about it being &quot;de-tuned&quot; Im a diesel mechanic that works on semi trucks, dump trucks, box trucks, crane trucks, and the like. I rarely touch pickups. Almost all 26000lbs straight box trucks made in the last 15 years have a de-tuned 6.7 Cummins (or PX-7 Paccars which are just a 6.7 Cummins painted black with a Paccar badge), making about 300HP and about 600ft/lbs. They&apos;re great engines for that kind of work and if you keep oil in them they&apos;ll easily do 500k miles. The thing is, they like to consume oil and don&apos;t have any kind of level sensor to warn the driver and (varies depending on oil pan) only have about 4 gal of oil in them, so if the owner isn&apos;t regularly checking oil, they might be low and destroying their engine. I&apos;ve seen 4 of those 6.7s fail in my 6 years working on them, all because they didn&apos;t check oil and ran them low regularly.<br><br>One customer every oil change there would only be 2 gal or less oil in it and we&apos;d tell them, &quot;check your fucking oil once a week and top it off as needed or something is going to fail.&quot; After servicing that truck a few times a rear for a few years it was towed over and we found their turbo bearings had failed. We replaced it and 6 months later they spun a main bearing and seized their engine. Check your fucking oil.

  I’m no GM fanboy, but I must say I’m loving the idea of a big beefy engine built right! Props to them! Now don’t get me started on the SCR/ DEF system though…
