I moved into a 55+ plus community and couldn’t be happier. As a single gentleman, living in a community with other single seniors is amazing. My romantic life has never been better. It’s like fishing in a barrel.

#1, I hate being the same age as old people.

HOAs are like voluntarily adding another layer of government to your life, no thanks.

Bad enough dealing with regular HOAs, can’t imagine dealing with people who have nothing else to do but be in everyone’s business. Heck no.

I can't think of anything worse. I will stick with my house.

My in-laws moved into a 55+ community. They loved it at first, but turns out it’s worse than High School. They moved out.

I moved into a 62+ apartment complex at age 62 because the rent in my area was ....and still is outrageous!
So ages 62 to 102...we are all treated like "seniors" the moment you walk in the door by staff.
The 80 to 102 year old residents will see younger residents as "helpers" ....knock knock "will you help me....." I had to set boundaries with the helping or my whole day would be diverted to helping.

My mother lived for a short time in a 55+ apartment building. She said it was depressing how often ambulances arrived in the middle of the night and death notices were posted in the elevator. We moved her.

I’m 59. The politics and cliques that are common in retirement communities would not be a good fit for my personality. I’m female and I strongly dislike womens’ groups such as bunko or bridge groups. The conversation mostly consists of gossip about the neighbors/coworkers who weren’t invited to the group. I find groups of women larger than 3 or 4 individuals to be tedious and draining, so I avoid them. Retirement community activities would be exhausting for me. Everyone is different though. My mother in law thrives in group situations.

There is only one huge drawback to a 55+ community. That is the HOA’s. The horrific HOA’s. And they’re never ending, never shrinking monthly fees.
