How I Would Learn Landscaping if I Had to Start Over in 2026

Yikes, the way I would learn landscaping from scratch in 2026 still haunts me because the first time I tried to prune a shrub I accidentally gave it a haircut so crooked it looked like it was going through something emotionally, and my brain was like “Hold on a second… why the hell are you shaping this bush like it’s auditioning for a role in a low budget sci‑fi movie?” and honestly, that’s when I realized I had no idea what I was doing but I was committed to the bit. So picture this: I’m out there with my little notebook, thinking I’m about to become the Beyoncé of backyard design, and suddenly the soil starts judging me, the weeds start whispering, and I’m having a whole conversation with myself like “Luise, girl, are we landscaping or are we just rearranging chaos?” because the way I planted a tree too close to the house and then spent three days Googling “how to apologize to a foundation” sent me. But funny enough, the moment I stopped trying to be perfect and started learning the basics like a normal human—soil health, plant spacing, sunlight patterns—everything clicked. I treated it like communication: listen first, act second, panic third. And come to think of it, the more I slowed down, the more confident I got, and suddenly my yard went from “what fresh hell is this” to “oh wow, that’s actually cute.” Have you ever tried something new and realized halfway through that your confidence arrived way before your competence?

I hit subscribe when you mentioned bubble diagram! It's so good to find relatable context that gives real practical advice and even trade secrets. Though I'm a building Architect, I love plants and nature so I'm always poking my nose around what landscape architects are up to. Btw I'm in Jamaica. So I don't have too much content appropriate to my climate or legislation but alas....I love your videos John.
