I bought my R1300RS, 719 Edition in February and it is amazing. Clearly I have the RS not the R but essentially the same and also awesome.

I just turned 61 yrs old. I've been retired 6 yrs. I'm 5'6" and I've had my motorcycle license since 1985 (for some context).

In June I traded my 2021 S1000XR with 38k+ miles on the clocks in for a R1300R option 719 non ASA version. And it is truly an awesome bike. I never thought I would own a boxer engine, but here I am. I know now why so many people love this engine. I've been riding in-line 4s for a longtime and absolutely love them but there is something to be said for a twin. The star of the R1300R is the torque. It doesn't care what gear you're in just roll the throttle open and it goes. It pulls you out of one corner and into the next. The XR had 20 more hp at 11000 rpm. In all the miles I rode that bike I never took the bike to that rpm. Yes, HP numbers are great but in reality if we are being honest with ourselves on the street you very rarely use any of that HP. Torque is king. The sound of the boxer engine is not the most exciting this is true but neither was the sound of the XR. Until I installed a full Akrapovic exhaust. It sounded great. FOR A DAY RIDE! In May my friends and I did a tour from South Carolina to the top of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia and then rode the BRP south back towards SC. A 4 day tour. Over 1000 miles. By the beginning of the 3rd day that exhaust was driving me crazy. And, Yes I wear earplugs. As for the weight the R1300R it's about 20 or so pounds heavier than the XR but because of the way the Boxer engine sits in the frame it feels about 20 pounds lighter than the XR. I always felt the XR was a tall top heavy bike. Add in a passenger and luggage and that bike felt really tall and top heavy. I'm surprised I never dropped it. And as for the price and technology. Yep! Bikes have gotten crazy expensive from when I started riding. Technology is gonna cost. It just is what it is. I've accepted it as part of doing business. Of course BMW and Ducati take it to another level when it comes to price of ownership and maintenance. I think BMW has a winner on their hands with the R1300R. I'd recommend this bike to any of my friends without worry. Excellent video. Thank you. Ride safe.

Because of my hand stiffness I've gone over to DCT, wish I'd done it years ago.

Thank you for this video. I'm sincerely interested in this bike, but wasn't sure about the automatic. Now, after seeing this, I may want the auto. Great review!

I have the option 719 version. It is so good, a very good road bike.
Keeps up with all the sports bikes and nakeds on the road, handles very well.
The weight is low down. As you say you don’t notice it when riding.

People always overlook that with DCT and these fully automatic systems, you can just override them without even going into manual mode. Want to press on through the corners, just override and drop a gear into the corners. The advantage is when you are stuck in traffic, man it would be nice to have one. I kind of like the hybrid of the Honda e-clutch, you can use the clutch if you want, use the foot shifter with or without the clutch, like the best quick shifter design possible.
