It's a yearly tradition in some Belgian villages in my neighborhood to blame a puppet of Marlborough of all problems of the year and burn it: the "Malbroekverbranding" (the burning of "Malbrook"). The Belgian province of Limburg was often plundered and burnt by armies (also because Liège payed them not to go through Liège) in the 18th century, but the name of Marlborough was remembered vividly enough - maybe as a symbol of all the plundering and scorched earth of the 18th century - to still have this tradition.

The Duke of Marlborough and the Howe brothers (George, Richard, William) are some of my favorite figures from this era.

Marlborough was quite the general, no matter who he faced. His legacy of battle is unmatched even today, never losing a battle to anyone. "The lnown world could not produce a man of such humanity..." Awesome video, my friend, looking forward to seeing what is coming next installment! 😊
