  Arguably the most important chemical process for modern civilization. Without it the planet could only support enough agriculture to feed ~3 billion people. But it also makes explosives and firearms possible and allowed Germany to continue fighting in WW1 after the British Empire cut off their access to Chilean guano as a source of nitrate.<br><br>(Not so) fun fact: Haber also developed the first chemical weapons used in WW1 (chlorine gas) and gave the very first order to deploy them during the Second Battle of Ypres. So the same guy who is the reason you are alive today is also the guy who unleashed the greatest terror ever seen in war (at least until 1945).

  now it&apos;s only a matter of adding a hydrogen generator through electrolysis, an electrical heating element and a source of nitrogen for ammonia from air, water and electricity!
