As a guitarist and bassist who plays the handful of instruments I have for hours a week, I LOVE stainless steel frets. Bends are way easier and they last longer. They are most definitely a worthy investment for any working musician.

I hear you,l have locking tuners on all my guitars now even my accoustic, love the speed to replace strings and stays in tune better, but each to their own😊

A lot of guitar players don’t realize that the guitar is the TOTAL SUM of its parts, and is NOT ALWAYS POSSIBLE to determine exactly WHAT makes it sound great or terrible.

Like Phil, I’ve had guitars that were boutique yet they sounded “dead”or just not very good, DESPITE changing pickups, the nut, the saddles, the tremolo, the tremolo block, swapping the neck out, etc.

The converse can also be true; a “cheap” guitar with run-of-the mill hardware and pickups might sound FANTASTIC, even though you’d think it would have no reason to.

But it’s fun to swap out parts and just screw around with things and learn in the process.

:)

It would be nicer if they made split post tuners in higher gear ratio, because those tuning just as good and sometimes better than cheap locking tuners.

Getting myself back to playing as quickly as possible is my goal.....no downtime would be ideal.

After decades of guitars that were std frets my last purchase (Yamaha Pacifica w/P90's) was my 1st SS fret guitar. I was actually surprised how "snappy" the attack is. Sounds a lot like a Fender. Not bad, but brighter than I expected.

You know what inspires me the most, Phil? It's your straight-up modern Strat. A maple neck (usually screwed on), a dark fretboard wood (often), a Strat-shaped body fitted with 2 single coil pickups in the neck and middle positions and a humbucker at the bridge, a 2-point vibrato, a 5-way switch and a humbucker split switch -- I'm good to go. My 3 favorites all have aluminum pickguard because I like them. As much as I love their looks, though, I love their sound much more. None of them are Fenders, but they all can get at least a version of the classic Strat sound set -- and "a version" is all any guitar can get, Fender or not. Fender saw to that personally by releasing umpteen thousand iterations of every product they make. Now, to Fender: You guys need to make better guitars. Go back and check out what happened in the 70s. Learn from it -- soon enough to save your company. This ain't the time for stupidity.

Love stainless steel frets. Have those installed on all my guitars, and that is my number one must have! Nowadays I wouldn’t buy a guitar that doesn’t have stainless steel frets. My second favourite, nice to have (but not must have) are locking tuners 🎸
