That fact of your body reacting before you realize it is so real. For the longest time I would have such massive stomach issues and I couldn't figure out why. I thought I had a food allergy of some kind, and was trying to change foods to figure out what was happening. Then I realized it only happened around certain people, and the only way to make the nausea go away was if I either slept through the time the person was there, or if I focused on something that gave me intense comfort. Before hearing about this kinda stuff I just thought I constantly had food poisoning and it was just going away with time. It is so insane the ways your body makes you realize something isn't ok before your brain knows it. Mental health effects so much more then anyone could ever realize on a surface level.

Much love & appreciation to Lexie and Shelby for having this very important discussion about abuse, accountability, and healing. If Lexie or Shelby would like this taken down, please let me know. I will be moderating the comments below. I will not tolerate any victim blaming. Hold abusers accountable and support survivors.

Its hard to realize that they DON'T love you. I think a lot of people think stuff like "oh well he loves me, so he isn't hurting me on purpose" and the solution is that he doesn't love you, and that he is lying about it to your face.

55:15 THIS. always give people a second chance. don't give them a third.
(by 'chance', within in the situation they are talking about, stick with them and give them support. if they still don't change, do not tolerate it.)

"In this relationship, I became like an entirely different person" Yeah. I look back especially on my last "relationship" (which was never even a "relationship" despite dating for years), and it's like I was thinking with a brain that wasn't even mine. I made decisions as if they were never my decisions. I think this is really hard to understand if you haven't experienced it.

I, as a 16 year old girl, was wondering why all of this hit so close to home and realised it was because I was RAISED with this sort of abuse. My dad was horrific to my mum, so much we ended up running away one day after school (I was 11). And I just never realised it was abnormal. I still listen to some of these stories and be like 'isn't that normal?' Because of how normalised this sort of thing is!

It’s crazy how much I relate to what they’re talking about around the 2 hour mark. I’ve never been in a abusive relationship (or any relationship for that matter), but I do have family issues. It’s sad to see how quiet I am now compared to years ago, and how I overthink everything I’m going to say to the point I say nothing. It sucks when the abuse comes from someone you love and someone who’s supposed to love and protect you. It took me forever to come to terms with what I’m facing is abuse and I should have never been treated this way. After years of constantly being gaslit and gaslighting myself I still feel like they’ll get better and improve and everything that happened is made up, but I know it’s not. I’ve been through so much.

Thank you both for sharing your experiences because it’s so validating to know that even though we went through completely different things I still relate and I’m not alone. It also reminds me that these things are happening, I’m not gaslighting myself and they are in the wrong. It’s also really important to share awareness. You’re both so strong for going through everything you have been through and sharing despite fear of backlash. You’re truly amazing and I wish no one having to face this kind of abuse. It sucks. 🫶

I have never been in a relationship, but I went through extensive bullying in school and have struggled with my mental health for years. The people around me always told me to forgive those that hurt me because supposedly forgiveness would free me. It got to the point where I felt shame for not feeling ready to forgive them after five years had passed. It made me feel shame to ever bring up these people in conversation because I was supposed to have forgotten. It made me feel shame that these people's actions still had such a lasting impact on my health. It was going on the internet and hearing someone say that I had the right to not forgive these people that was what has truly allowed me to begin moving on. Please know you have a right to never forgive these people. What they have done to you is inexcusable and you are allowed to feel upset, you are allowed to hate them, you are allowed to never want to see them or speak to them or forgive them. You are so strong for enduring whatever situation you have been through, whether it be platonic or romantic or sexual, whether it be a "friend," a relative, a co-worker, etc. You are brave and beautiful and loved, always remember that <3 ;

My father is a narcissistic ab**er and every time i hear stories like this, i understand more of my mothers actions for staying and more of my personal reactions from watching it happen to her. Just WATCHING these same things happen has heavily impacted my relationships and friendships and my own mental health. I don’t believe he loved me, and he never will and i hate to think of how my mom feels and shes the one who experienced it, i just watched and got the after effects and only a bit of it myself..
