  I&apos;ve said for over a decade at this point that we&apos;ve gotten well past the point of &quot;diminishing returns&quot; when it comes to graphics. The advancements since the PS3/360 area aren&apos;t as impressive as the leaps previous generations made. I would even argue that the best part of tech since then isn&apos;t higher fidelity models, textures, etc but that <b>more stuff</b> can be be on the screen at any given time. <br><br>When it comes to AAA, or I guess it&apos;s AAAA now, the companies/publisher/etc want nice flashy graphics for the trailer. They want to get people to buy the game but don&apos;t really seem to care how good the game actually is. There are exceptions, but those are rare.

  For the last 15 years or so, all the big publishers have insisted they need to spend absurd amounts of money to make games. They&apos;re putting enormous development crews on these decade-long projects and if they&apos;re really lucky, it might do well enough for some of them to keep their job. Meanwhile, most of the games with real grassroots enthusiasm forming around them are coming from relatively tiny teams, meagre budgets, and if they can sell 20,000 copies, it&apos;s a success. I don&apos;t think the console market has much of a future, the way it&apos;s headed.

  This can be seen in their games to this day because pretty 90% of their games have either cartoony, anime, or realistic but highly stylized art styles.<br><br>Mario, most Zelda games, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Pokemon, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, Smash.<br><br>none of them are the most graphically impressive games ever but they look great anyway

  Abd then Nintendo did the same thing 20 years later with the Wii.<br><br>No HD, no DVD or BluRay player, barely more powerful than the GameCube, best-selling console of all time (up to that point)

  Fun fact: the Vespa, a small motorcycle, was invented after its manufacturer, who used to build airplanes, had an abundance of tiny wheels after workd war 2.

  That&apos;s something that occurred to me when my ol&apos; lady bought her nephews a Playstation 5 for Christmas a few years ago. &nbsp;Top of the line hardware (in 2023) that can render games at 4K 60Hz... but plugged into a 10+ year old TV with a resolution of 1080p. &nbsp;She could have gotten them a PS4 and they probably wouldn&apos;t notice much, if any difference besides not being able to play newer games.

  Remember when consoles in specific and technology in general got cheaper in when it got older?<br>I didn&apos;t buy a Steam deck because I thought with the Switch 2 coming out Steam would have dropped the price or come out with better hardware to stay competitive. Guess I bet wrong.

  The irony is, some of the biggest players in gaming now, are actually not gaming companies. &nbsp;Gaming is big business and it might generate a lot of revenue for them, but for some companies, if their gaming division was to fold today, they would absolutely feel the sting, but it wouldn&apos;t kill the company. &nbsp;That&apos;s the problem that exists. They don&apos;t have that problem to deal with, as such, they don&apos;t have the worry that some do.
