Bohol Beyond the Tourist Spots! 🇵🇭 Local Food, Jungle Huts & Rural Bohol

We left Bohol's famous tourist spots behind and found a completely different side of the island — colourful local markets, incredible Filipino food and rustic jungle huts hidden along the Loboc River. This Bohol travel guide takes you beyond the Chocolate Hills to Batuan, Loboc and Tagbilaran, with local food, public transport, rural villages and an unforgettable stay at Nuts Huts. If you're planning a Bohol itinerary or looking for things to do beyond the usual tourist attractions, this is the side of Bohol we'd highly recommend seeking out. After exploring the Chocolate Hills and Bohol's biggest attractions in Part 1, we wanted to see what life was like away from the main tourist trail. Our journey starts in Batuan, where we explore the local public market and try Filipino favourites including binuelo and sapin-sapin before sitting down to a huge meal of pancit, beef steak, pork ribs and chicken isaw. Then we head to Sindo's for one of Bohol's favourite local foods — lechon manok, a whole rotisserie chicken cooked over an open flame. From Batuan, we take the bus to Loboc and make our way through a quiet village to Nuts Huts, a collection of simple wooden huts hidden along the Loboc River. We swim in the river, explore the surrounding countryside, eat at the riverside restaurant and discover a much quieter alternative to the famous Loboc River Lunch Cruise. We then experience Bohol's public transport, taking a jeepney to Tagbilaran before trying more Filipino food and Bohol's traditional hot chocolate, sikwate.
