"The biggest fear of a true Vietnamese is the fear of losing the country".

This is ridiculous, I am French ( and yeah, we are sorry our past to Vietnam ) and i would like to say that, those islands stuff is Vietnam territory. I also declined that Chinese people said that. No mercy to them, this time I support Vietnamese citizens. I don't care about those Chinese paper sh1t assumed those islands belongs to them. Fck no? we have a map from the Indochina era that we are very sure that Chinese people and government have no right to take those islands from Vietnam. Libérez les Vietnamiens

I have nothing against Chinese people as individuals, as I believe many of them are kind and decent. But when it comes to China as a nation, thousands of years of history have taught us that we can never afford to let our guard down. The fact that both our countries are under communist regimes doesn’t change any of that, because no political party or ideology stands above the nation itself. Communism is not, and will never be, more important than our homeland - a land whose independence we’ve spent centuries fighting to protect.

Vietnam understands China better than any other country. We have lived together for thousands of years to understand that "Life of Vietnamese people as well as Chinese people" - Ho Chi Minh. So the statement at second 19:37 is completely wrong. Ho Chi Minh never said this. No Vietnamese person has ever heard this. Don't put nonsense into the mouths of philosophers.
The Chinese government, although constantly changing for thousands of years, always intends to control Vietnam in some way they think of. That is what makes Vietnam cautious with China.

But we have never hated China. We know that every country has good people and bad people. Therefore, we know how to choose, treat well and respect Chinese people with good intentions, and prevent and teach how to be good people to Chinese people with bad intentions.

You forgot to mention that the Chinese were incandescent with rage over Vietnam liberating Cambodia from the Chinese supported regime of the Khmer Rouge. (China didn't seem to mind that their Maoist client had murdered two million Cambodians, exterminated Cambodia's' Vietnamese minority and was launching vicious, homicidal raids into Vietnam)

I am Vietnamese, and in my personal opinion, the relationship between Vietnam and China is very complicated. We have been both friends and enemies, but the number of times we were enemies far exceeds the times we were friends. No country can understand China better than Vietnam because of thousands of years of experience fighting against northern invaders. China is always greedy, deceitful, and unkind. They are never a good or trustworthy friend.

However, in today's increasingly integrated world, cooperation for mutual development is a necessity. At the same time, we are also prepared for the worst-case scenario that could occur. We will do everything for the prosperity of our nation.

As for true friends, I believe they are the Soviet Union, Laos, Cuba, Iraq. Unfortunately, the Soviet Union no longer exists.

I don’t know the sentiment before 1979 ( border clash/war). Likely positive!
The hate is real and have nothing to do with ideology, in fact average people don’t care about ideology (at all), same go with people in eastern block countries.

I think the main reasons Jealousy of the lost side in their/our imaginary competition !! Many if it most Vietnamese always view China as an adversary where it is always inferior. If they view China as a whole ass continent, things may be different

Of course the conflict in South China Sea ( called East Sea by Vietnam) is not helping

When dominated by the other, it's turning into hate. The simple rule of nature 😅
