Hilarious that during his introduction he tells you where he lives before who he is, because it’s obviously more important to him.

“Is he just reading off the Wikipedia page?” Well, pretty much yeah. His “media analysis” monologues are intentionally just as shallow as the rest of him. He’s always trying to present an image that fits in with society but doesn’t have the empathy/understanding of people to do more than try to mimic behaviors he can’t personally relate to.

Gotta love an unreliable narrator especially when he is clearly insane...

If you look closely, the world around Bateman constantly works to absorb his crimes instead of exposing them. People misidentify him, confuse him with other businessmen, forget conversations, and overlook obvious danger signs. That isn’t because he’s innocent, it’s because he’s insulated. His parents are among the wealthiest, most connected names in the book’s universe. The firm he works at, the exclusive circles he moves in, and the social class he belongs to all function as a shield. These people don’t want scandal, don’t want headlines, and definitely don’t want one of their own going to prison, so everything gets quietly “handled.”

Even Kimball’s investigation fits this reading: every time Kimball gets close, something pulls him away — contradictory alibis, sudden “clarifications,” and leads that disappear overnight. It’s not incompetence; it feels like someone above him is redirecting the outcome. The moment Bateman starts unravelling, the system tightens around him, not to catch him but to ensure the truth never surfaces.

The point isn’t that Bateman imagined everything. The point is far darker:
He really did commit all those murders and his world is engineered so the consequences never reach him. It’s not a story about an unreliable narrator; it’s a story about how money can erase atrocities so thoroughly that even the killer begins to doubt the reality of what he’s done.

For his audition Christian Bale was in character from the moment he walked in to the time he finished. It disturbed the producers/director etc so much that he was given the part on the spot

The most accurate portrayal of a psychopath is the killer in No Country for Old Men.

First, when Bateman walks in and sits down with the others, McDermott gestures over to Bryce and mentions that he "just got back, and he's drinking mineral water. He's a changed man." This indicates that Bryce has just returned from a not-insignificant trip. Where to? Well, just after Ronald Reagan's speech later on, if you pay close attention, Bryce speaks several of his lines in a bad British accent, as a pretentious person like him might do after spending a few days in England. It seems likely that Carnes had dinner in London with Bryce, whom he thinks is called Paul Allen.
