I've visited the Aztec/Chacoan ruins in Aztec, New Mexico, as well as Chaco Canyon.  Fascinating places, but not at all as described in this flight of fancy!

This is a C picture.  It has an interesting idea but lacks the special effects skills to pull it off.  To be fair, the creature is not a dragon in the Chinese or Medieval mode.  It is a moderately sized reptile with wings - not that far a stretch from a bird that retained more of its reptilian ancestry.  One flaw is that there is little time spent on the plot's exposition.  Everything is laid out too quickly, losing any mystery or suspense.  Too much time is spent watching 1940s cars travel back and forth, back and forth, through the desert scenery.  Still, it is an enjoyable watch, although the film sharpness is limited - the print is not crisp - it may never have been.

This was "remade" as Q-THE WINGED SERPENT   by Larry Cohen in 1982 with David Carradine, Candy Clark, Michael Moriarty, and Richard Roundtree.
