Soak the ears of corn in water first, corn stays juicer. I do them like that on the grill and on campfire.

Spent a long weekend in a damp state park years ago. I slept on a surplus canvas cot, 2 surplus wool blankets, and a double-bed down quilt, which covered top and bottom. Toasty warm all night, and a friend asked would I please keep his glasses warm because he was almost as blind as I am, and his were frozen over. The cooking was done in my well-loved cast iron potbelly stove, weighing in at around 15 pounds. Forgot to grab the bag of charcoal, so it was pine cones, twigs, and brown leaves. Quite a bit of debris safely removed from possible future wildfire fuel. I like being a conservationist!

You can also bake a spud in a can that didn't have the top completely removed.

For better fire heat I will spread on the wooden wall emergency blankets because it's reflecting the heating

I'd like to try some of these purely out of curiosity. My grandparents all grew up in the depression years. It'd be a nice way to remember them.

Oh i dunno, i have had no issues with flame cooking, gives a good smoky flav. Downside is uneven cooking if left alone.

A point to the the trick described at 19:40, DO NOT use rocks that are by a water source. Believe it or not they can explode when heated as they might be porous and be water logged. A lot of times they just Crack but have seen them literally explode.

In Boy Scouts, we cooked all of these different ways. To keep things interesting. we would have a different cooking theme for each campout concentrating on these types of techniques. Over the years, I've taught countless boys to cook using all these techniques and we all had fun doing it. I wonder if Scouts are still taught these things today. Bonus round: trying cooking an egg in a paper bag. It is amazing that it works. I'm sure you could find instructions on You Tube somewhere. Enjoy
