This is Toni Galvez, from Batman Group, thank you so much for choosing our demo to show what a CPC can do.

never change my man. You being so excited and knowledgeable about an era of gaming that isn't talked about enough these days is one of the reason i love the show.

Maybe the ideal combination was not so much about the Speccy's smooth graphics but about the Speccy's detailed graphics VS the blocky amstrad and C64 ones. The sepccy's resolution with the amstrad colours and the C64 SID sound. That probably would had been the dream machine.

Had an original Amstrad CPC 464 (with the proper tall keys) back in June 1985 for my 11th birthday with full colour monitor as my first ever computer. Was never really one for going with the crowd, more Switzerland as I still liked friends who had the Spectrum and Commodore too and enjoyed their machines.

One game I liked on the Amstrad was Druid by Firebird Software. It was bright, colourful and played at a good speed, but for the life of me, I can't remember what the sound was like. I do remember having to buy it from a catalogue that my mother used to run (I think it was John Moores) because, at the time, my parents were on very low incomes, so I had to purchase my own games. I remember ordering it and having to wait nearly 7 weeks for it to be delivered, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Of course, I never did beat it lol.

I also remember buying my Amstrad CPC 464 with the TV tuner (no monitor), and DD1 Disk drive from the catalogue. It took nearly 8 weeks to be delivered, but I had to wait a further 12 weeks for the Disk Drive because Amstrad had run out of stock for the drive. Good memories and loads of fun, at the time I also had a ZX Spectrum 48k with the rubber keyboard, both machines I was very proud of.

I'm with you Jace on music should never come at the expense of sound effects, that's like playong a game in mute while listening to a CD.

29:20 Spectrum has a a lower resolution at the most equivalent mode than the CPC (256*192 versus 320*200) with fewer bits per pixel to write, so it does have less work to do per frame and thus has a higher theoretical frame rate for a roughly equivalent display.

Lots of comments from me on this video.

I had a modified CPC 464, it had an extrenal disc drive and an external 64K ram pack, but crucially, it had the Rom chip from a 6128, connected to a swirch. So I could switch between 464 and 6128 modes.

Gryzor, had a special disc version for 6128 only, that I could play.

22:55 You make fun of the brown C64 but the red dirt in CPC Ikari Warriors and the olive green dirt in CPC Commando shows a weakness of the system: no true 🟤 brown tones. Quite a lot of things in games are brown. Dirt / the ground, trees, many shades of human skin. The CPC has a beautiful bright palette dividing the RGB colour space evenly into three levels for each primary but there are big holes in it. Some artists did wonders with this limitation. For example the black guys in Renegade are drawn with a mix of red and black black pixels and it somehow works.

Good friend of mine had a CPC6128, whilst I was still rocking a ZX Spectrum 48k (did eventually get a +3 though!). There were games we preferred playing on the Amstrad and other that we preferred playing on the Spectrum. I think the Amstrad just got a lot of lazy ports from the Spectrum. Still Speccy till I die though!
