  You can see the violence between cowherders and farmers in the us Midwest. There were massive pushback against people who started to fence off their lands. This meant that watering holes that were practically public became private.

  It could also be the case that the paintings depicting violent attacks were painted by a community member to show or even to remember what happened to their people, like a kind of ancient memorial. We can never really know, but we do this today with paintings and statues, not to glorify what we did but to remember the incidents or the fallen heroes.

  Otzi the iceman was definitely a victim of such a war or ambush. He had an arrowhead in his back and was apparently trying a &quot;Hail Mary&quot; escape or had been pursued into a mountain pass in a time of year when no one should be doing such a thing. As a coppersmith, he was a man of high status and magic so being alone was highly unlikely to begin with.
