Word of Life Mission / Korea Baptist Convention Title: Receive Only the Filling of the Holy Spirit Date: August 9, 2026 Speaker: Rev. Oh Se-il Word of Life Mission for Your Soul https://www.jbch.org The Word of Life Mission (Korea Baptist Convention) delivers the Word of God to all people around the world. In order to receive the filling of the Holy Spirit, it is important to first realize that the Holy Spirit dwells within us and to completely surrender our lives to His guidance. Remembering the great grace with which God sealed and saved us, I hope this Sunday's message will be a time for you to meditate on how to continue a life of faith filled with the Holy Spirit in your daily lives. [Sunday Sermon Summary] 1. The Sealing and Indwelling of the Holy Spirit (God's Work) The coming of the Holy Spirit upon a saved believer is entirely the sovereign work of God. Sealing: God seals with the Holy Spirit those who hear and believe the gospel of salvation (Ephesians 1:13). This is a confirmation of 'ownership.' In other words, it is God's declaration that "You are mine," signifying a complete transition from belonging to the devil to belonging to God. Indwelling: Simultaneously with the sealing, the Holy Spirit enters our hearts and dwells there forever (2 Corinthians 1:21-22). This is the fulfillment of the promise of Immanuel, that God is with us. 2. Baptism of the Holy Spirit (Union with Christ) Baptism of the Holy Spirit signifies the event of union with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Just as the Israelites, having crossed the Red Sea, escaped the oppression of Egypt and became a people serving God, the saints who have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit have their former old self (a life following the devil) die, and are reborn into a new life, transferred to a life of serving God (Romans 6:3-5). This baptismal ceremony is an important decision of faith that proclaims these spiritual realities. 3. Filling with the Holy Spirit (The Responsibility of the Believer) While the "indwelling of the Holy Spirit" is God's work, "be filled with the Holy Spirit" (Ephesians 5:18) is a command given by God to the believer. Meaning: Even though the Holy Spirit dwells within us, our own thoughts or worldly desires can take control of us. Being filled with the Holy Spirit means completely surrendering the steering wheel of our lives to the Holy Spirit and filling our hearts with God's Word so that He may take control of our lives (Metaphor: removing the air from a cup and filling it with water). Consistency: While the baptism and indwelling of the Holy Spirit are one-time events, being filled with the Holy Spirit is a daily, repetitive, and continuous process of the life of faith. We must empty ourselves through the Word and obedience every day and fill ourselves with the Holy Spirit. 4. Attitude toward the Holy Spirit and Sins to Guard Against This section emphasizes the areas we must be careful about regarding the Holy Spirit. The Sin of the Unbeliever: Rejection of the Holy Spirit: Rejecting the opportunity to hear and believe the Gospel until the very end. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit: Opposing and hindering the preaching of the Gospel (resulting in failure to receive forgiveness). Sins of the Saints: The sin of deceiving the Holy Spirit: Living a hypocritical or dishonest religious life like Ananias and Sapphira. The sin of grieving the Holy Spirit: Griefing the Holy Spirit by living a life of sin. The sin of quenching the Holy Spirit: Ignoring or rejecting the work that the Holy Spirit inspires and desires to do (extinguishing the fire of the Holy Spirit). In conclusion, believers who have already been saved through the sealing and indwelling of the Holy Spirit must walk the right path of faith desired by God by resolving to live a 'Holy Spirit-filled' life, surrendering the sovereignty of their lives to the Holy Spirit. [Scripture] In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise. (Eph. 1:13) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8) Therefore we were buried with him through baptism into death, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we also might walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:4)
