i believe sentinel is probably the most human. we have no problem destroying habitats and life blow us on the food chain so we can populate or change the land. The difference is that sentinel was doing it to save his species. besides, one thinks of their family before another. the other negative traits of sentinel also match with humans a lot.

Bayverse Sentinel Prime had always been my favourite version of the character: he's not an arrogant jerk, like Animated Sentinel. Nor is he a narcissistic tyrant like Transformers One Sentinel. He's a leader determined to see his people flourish under his guidence and protection. After all, that's the point of being a sentinel: you guard. But he was too caught up in his guilt of failing to save them that he will do anything to rectify that mistake. Even if it means attacking those he loves the most or harming people who never gave him grievances...

From a moral point of view, Sentinel was in the wrong: Earth is a sovereign planet and its people have every right to be alive and free. Esepcially since they were dragged into the Cybertronian civil war (a war Sentinel had failed to prevent or win) against their will. But from a practical point of view, he was right: Cybertronians have been decimated and functionally extinct even if the war was to stop instantly. Without a home planet to call their own, they're vulnerable to the whims of whoever "host" they might live under. And Earth could provide both the resources and the workforce to rebuild Cybertron.

The problem was that Sentinel tried to obtain these means through force, while he could potentially achieve the same results through honest negotiations and promises for trade, rather than enslavement.

I think that one of Optimus's biggest flaws, is that for all his great qualities, including but not limited to his unwavering moral compass, is that he's a leader who focuses solely on the present rather than building towards a future. Which is not necessarily bad, don't get me wrong. After all, it'd be foolish of him to begin thinking about future plans when a war is literally being fought right in front of them. But every war must end some time. And thought must go to what comes next.

I think that for instance, the main issue with Sentinel is that apart from the deal he had struck with Megatron (which one could claim that he felt honour bound to see fulfilled), what confirmed Sentinel's betrayal during his brief time with Optimus, was the belief that his former student had given up on returning to Cybertron or rebuilding it.

If Optimus had sat Sentinel down and told him "yes, in the heat of battle we had to destroy both the Allspark and the Energon Harvester. Those were serious loses. But they're not unsalvageable. I'm confident that between you, Ratchet and Que we can repair or replicate them both relics. And if we negotiate fairly, humanity could provide us raw material or volunteering workers to rebuild Cybertron" then perhaps Sentinel would have been willing to give this arrangement a chance.

Personally, I believe that just like Megatron allowed himself to escape the thankless, unglamorous job of actual governance by playing revolutionary/warlord (as long as he has enemies to fight, he doesn't have to prove that he can build something better than what he's torn down), Optimus has gotten himself a similar escape route: he doesn't enjoy battle and slaughter, but as long as there are immediate threats and enemies for him to fight, he continues to operate on black and white moral lines (good Vs evil, protect the innocent, stop the aggressors) and he doesn't have to engage in administration and politics. Things that are inherently grey areas, always someone loses something and who inevitably force you to sacrifice at least a part of your moral compass to get anything done. Things that he had seen Sentinel doing and excelling at...

If I can say that I have issues with thie character are the following: we should see him exploring and studying human history. Sentinel is a scientist. Him seeing how untrustworthy, short-sighted, selfish, greedy and petty humans can be could justify his disdain for them even more. And personally, even with this disdain for humans, I'd like to see at least crumbs of the Prime he used to be. Mainly be expressing disgust towards the wanton cruelty of the Decepticons.

I consider most of the tie-in comic books for the Michael-Bay-directed live-action 'Transformers' movies to be non-canonical, including the ones for 'Transformers 3: Dark of The Moon'. Anyways, Sentinel Prime was nowhere near as far gone as Megatron. He wasn't evil. He was simply reluctantly doing what he believed had to be done in order to save his kind and for his homeworld to be revitalized, and Optimus killing him was the true start of that version of Optimus acting very out-of-character. When it comes to what Sentinel did in 'TF 3: DOTM', people have to keep in mind that Sentinel had a "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" mindset and that from his perspective, Cybertronians went from being like gods to being treated as if though they were mere machines by a far less advanced species of lifeforms who were much smaller than non-Mini-Con Cybertronians. And, before he used some of the Pillars to let the Decepticons who were on the Moon come through a space bridge portal to Earth, he said "Forgive me.", so it's obvious that he was reluctantly doing what he thought was necessary. He wasn't a villain, but an antihero. The climax should have been written in a way where in the end, Sentinel set things right by sacrificing himself to stop Megatron's plan from succeeding. But, instead, they had Optimus Prime do something that he would never do if he was being written correctly.
