My cancer started like this. About 65 years old get up one morning cannot urinate cannot defecate. My plumbing is totally locked up so I call an ambulance and go to the hospital. The doctor said I have enlarged prostate put in a catheter and sent me home. Go see Urologist so I did PSA was normal for my age. He kept saying I had enlarged prostate. So looking at all the treatments for enlarged prostate I found one I liked PAE contacted the doctor. He said you need to get up MRI. So I got one I get a call from the the PAE Doctor, he says you have lesions on your prostate. You need to go do a biopsy with your urologist. So I did the Urologist calls me. Yes you have cancer. No pain normal PSA one thing was different though. Semen was absolutely clear like water. I knew something was wrong so they told me that I caught it early enough and I got proton therapy about three years ago and that pretty much solve that problem no more cancer. So MRI is a hell of a tool for some reason Urologist do not use it. Which is a shame!! without MRI I would’ve been in deep trouble!!

I went to my (then new) primary care physician in 2023, and 2024. I asked in 2024 why I see no PSA results on my rather extensive blood tests he does each year. Answer: "A lot of men die with prostate cancer, but not many die from prostate cancer." I said, "I'm 64 and have had two bouts with bladder cancer so....I have had cancer in the past." He said the tests can give a false positive and biopsies can be painful and blah, blah, blah. (Translation: More than likely insurance won't cover it.) I said, "So if I have prostate cancer your advice is to just ignore it?" Of course he started back pedaling at that point. I'm self pay so I told him I wanted the PSA and he told me there would be an additional charge for the the PSA test. I got an additional $200 charge on my bill for the "additional" blood test. This year I went to a different doctor.

It is common to have no symptoms. But your body will tell you there is something wrong, you have to learn to listen.
I knew something was seriously wrong, but could not pinpoint it and was diagnosed with depression. Crucially, they took 4 vials of blood and did blood tests, however they DID not tick the box to test PSA. This was 5 years before I was diagnosed with a PSA score of 75, with Stage 3B and Gleason 4+5.
The first words my oncologist said was - 'You are terminally ill, you should see 5 years but not 10. My 10th year is 2026.

Just trying to get a doctors appointment should be put as a cause of death these days, it's virtually mission impossible.

I'm 58, mine got picked up by abnormal PSA tests. No physical symptoms. MRI found a 1.2cm tumor fully contained. I was lucky enough to have a laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, most nerves spared. I'm very thankful for modern medical science.

The doctor caught my prostate cancer on a routine physical. PSA was 6.2 in July and in October was 8.5. Got a biopsy in January and prostate removed February 25th. It was 70% adenocarcinoma still contained within the prostate. I had no symptoms, no family history. 54 years of age. I tell all the men I know to make sure they get checked. I have fully recovered since my surgery. I wish all of you the best.

I've recovered from stage 4 colon cancer. I lost a foot of my colon and 30 lymph nodes. The scary part was I didn't even know I had cancer until I went in for a colonoscopy at 51. Please if you're reading this and you are 40+ get a colonoscopy.
