The last time I was this early the internet was still alive

This was a cool sneaky way to demonstrate dialectical materialism. Practical applications are the best way for some people (like me, I'm some people) to learn.

I like how this has basically become the best channel for applying dialectics to modern discussions.

As Stephanie sterling once said, the internet used to be pretty good until corporations carved it up into private fiefdoms

In the late 90s, my dad bought me a computer so I could write my papers in the safety of my apartment if I felt like pulling an all-nighter. He was like, "It has a 4 GB hard drive, so you'll never run out of space!" Later that semester, I made an interesting discovery -- a music file called an MP3 that I could download in about 30 minutes over my 56 kb/s dial-up connection. Pretty soon, Dad's prediction about never running out of space fell flat.

I knew the internet would turn into a slopfest all the way back in the 90s when I heard Pepsi set up a website. Why would Pepsi need a website? What would even be on it? Pictures of people drinking cans of Pepsi? What kind of person wants to stay on top of whatever Pepsi has been up to lately?

While I did predict the slopification, nothing prepared me for the absolute level of degradation all of humanity would suffer because of it. Every day, it seems, a new horror unfolds. And everybody just kind of shrugs and goes back to fingerblasting facebook or whatever it is they do on their phones all day.

The whole arrangement is bizarre.

Used to be..."Bread and games"...and now, "Bread, games and total surveillance".

Genuinely my new favorite video on the internet as someone who uses it too much and also interacts with a lot of media from these political alignments. It was engaging, thoughtful and injected a hefty sum of hope into a topic that is usually brought up amongst doomers with no plan to take that issue and make an impact irl. By contrast, I am filled with hope at three in the morning and my gears are turning about who I'm going to conversate with at work about this (especially more tech savvy folks) and begin to imagine how to move to the next stage of development. Thank you guys.

PS I am tremendously enjoying the physical version of Luna's translated work. Please keep going. You both are doing a huge service to workers here in the English-speaking west. My nearest thing to a complaint is that this surge of excitement in the wee hours of the morning has had a negative dialectical impact upon my sleep.

Finally, an end of video appeal to internet privacy that isn’t a segue into a VPN ad

This is brilliant, especially since I've been reading Volume I. Seeing application of dialectical materialism is really helpful. Thank you!
