When one hears this Band in its full glory, I is reminded of what Trane said when referencing his playing period with Miles during this period- “ I never played more horn or discovered more exit signs that I grasped when I left that Band.” Miles’ musical structural concepts and Monk’s extra credit courses provided John with the foundation to slay the dragons of musical constraints. At some point John had to entertain himself and find an avenue to express his burgeoning religious impulses; he played everything that Sonny and Dexter were not playing. A true Saint and a man of spiritual renewal who before he died contemplated touring with Miles and the Second Great Quintet. Miles and hisBand had become the intrepid explorers and boundary destroyers of the next generation

And there, in 1960, Coltrane trying to find a new door, making it on stage to let people see with him what he discover on time. Amazing.

Well matched, and articulate. Some things just don't blend, no matter how hard one tries. I think when considering options it's important to recognize where one's power ends. From there, it's about "the other side." What other people/minds can bring...

Miles was in the 60s at a trumpet playing peak that since has not been matched, not even to-date.
