This is one of the best videos on this topic. You explained this better than other channels.

I am just going to add my two cents for people out there using running as mostly a weight loss exercise.  I have basically gone all in on zone 2.  I have ran 20-30 miles a week for a few years and over the last two months ramped up to 90 miles (150 km) per week.  I do this by converting the time I would relax or entertain myself into running.  So I run 2x7.5 or 3x5 miles a day.  And I go slow enough to never feel tired climbing stairs at anytime during the day (This ends up being 125 bpm for me being 50 years old.).  The multiple sessions each day help keep my joints/tendons from wearing out.  This is basically 2.5-3 hours of running a day. Would recommend running shoes designed for high mileage though.  (Asic Megablast have been great.)

Over training is my downfall. I still think I am 22.

I'm over 60 and I have to do a pre - warmup, 3 x 400m easy jogs,  before my warmup 2-3km, and then a 30-45 min Z 2 run. Just the way it is to avoid injury. Great video here, thanks!

Great content. I have been doing endurance over 20 years and read a lot about training. This is the best content condensed in 10 min i hve had access to. Good job and thanks for sharing.

Finally! The right perspective and  approach to aerobic training. I have been on the fence on this. I train a team of 10 beginner runners, started mostly with HR zone based programs, but have moved progressively to a combination of pace, RPE and HR. It works differently with each runner. This is what make this discipline complex. You got it when you said "HR is a proxy". That is exactly right. Thanks so much for this. I have been looking for validation on this perspective for a while. Too much hype in zone training.

Underfueling zone 2 is probably what I have been doing all the time. Time to change! Thanks for the information

New to endurance and over 40. Nice to know that I’m doing a lot of things right, but now I also understand why and that will lead to more effective training.<br>Thanks for that 🙏
