  Two things I’ve learned in my 65 years on this planet: Carmelized food tastes great, &nbsp;knife heat treatments differ and matter in performance. Great job demonstrating both points.

  Screws and nails are totally different hardnesses. Nails are often very soft so they can bend as the wood shifts, and screws are much harder so they will usually snap long before they bend ...

  A little info about Carothers: Nathan is a machinist by trade and a knife craftsman with a high level of metallurgy knowledge. His wife Jo participates in knife competitions. They have collaborated with many other competitors and knife design experts to create many different knives. This one appears to be a field knife 2, but there are many others that would be worth testing. He has done some knives in D2 (with proprietary heat treat) and CPM 4V. I believe he is working with Magnacut now as well. <br><br>He is a scientist with an uncompromising commitment to quality. His knives are among the best in the world.

  Just to clarify, Carothers Performance Knives uses V4E (63 HRC) in their Competition Chopper which was designed in collaboration with Bladesports World Champion Dan Keffeler

  Thanks for reviewing this knife. Nathan and Jo are awesome, and Carothers is my favorite knife maker. He doesn’t produce “art” knives. Rather he produces well designed, hard working, reliable tools. In my humble opinion his knives offer unbeatable value.

  I did not realize you guys did a cpk knife.. im super pumped about this. Nathan&apos;s D3V is my favorite steel. I have a dozen of his knives and I rarely carry anything else.
