The real malware was the bloat they removed from Windows all along.

14:00 They are recreating the folders and blocking ownership takeover so Microsoft can't force-reinstall Edge because of filesystem permissions blocking it.

14:00 it's basically creating "nuh uh!" folders to prevent Windows from trying to install Edge again.

the creator: watches this and moves on to step 3:
after getting the trust, refer this video for all future "virus" complaints, while having implemented a truck load of malware into their now "honorable" debloater

The script restarts the computer at the end, and Windows Defender turns on automatically after the restart. So technically, there's no need to add extra code to enable it.

13:53 As someone who knows how overpowered filesystem permissions can be on Windows, think of it this way:
A folder that doesn't exist has read/write permissions to be created.

HOWEVER, if a folder exists, the permissions given to the folder are what the folder will have, so if you make the folder and then make it read-only for every user/group, owned by TrustedInstaller, etc. then nothing can ever write to that folder unless it has the ability to take ownership of the folder to fix the blocking permissions in that folder. Basically, there's absolutely no way Edge Update can ever write to those folders ever again now.

I'd be suspect of any forks of the repository. A sneaky way malware succeeds is hiding inside something that does something legit.
