This editor might be the best editor in the FGC. 8:14 using the replay takeover the show every wakeup option that Diaphone mentions and shows it seamlessly along what he's saying. So, so good, really elevates the content.

An underrated factor, even at the highest levels, is physical and mental health. If you are not exercising, eating junk, sleeping 6 hours a night, and playing after a long day of school/work, you are going to struggle to consistently improve, especially as a part time, 'casual' player.

holy shit, the editing on this is insane. Using the replay take over to visually explain what you're suggesting is really helpful

I want to set a counterpoint to the spikes. It's not so much people not getting better, but people fearing the loss and losing the rank. It's a classic moment of "ranked parking", where people either lose the motivation to climb higher or being scared of losing the shiny badge is bigger than the fun playing.

Dota2 introduced the feature of always displaying your highest achieved rank <this seaon>, so people keep playing ranked.

Ranked works fine as a training ground if you are able to put ego aside, in the end it's meant to match you with opponents of similar skill level

Honestly one of your best vids ever, Diaphone. Super practical and actually makes you believe you can get there with some effort.

might be a bit helpful from my graduate classes: as you said, varied practice is vital. I think everyone should play more than one character or more than one fighting game. You don't need to main them, but just something different. Let your brain process differences between them. Also, if you have any patterns, you are unaware of, a different character or game will expose them or break them. You can't play guile the same way you play Cammy so it lets your brain undo old patterns and develop new strategies. And don't be afraid to play a confusing character. I only play simple characters but picking up a complicated character works my brain to where when I go back to my main, its easy breezy.

19:06 I learned a lot of playing against my diamond friend when I was silver and getting 0-30'd, finding a training partner that beats your ass is a good way to improve since you can just focus on getting them at a lower health than you did the last round rather than winning. Takes a lot of patience and feels like a waste of time but it def helps.

How you practice is more important than how much you practice.

On the topic of people being terrible at diagnosing their own problems, there was a reddit post right before Mai came out where people would post their weaknesses so people could guess their rank. There were so many posts where the weaknesses were identical but it was a complete toss up between around plat or 1800 mr.
