What do YOU think of Silver's writing today? Is it as bad as I make it out to be, or am I just overreacting? I'd really like to know the general consensus!

Silver is cool asf, I just hate how the majority of the fandom infantilizes him.... He isn't a literal baby its like people forget he is a time traveler who comes from a world forever set ablaze. Sure he doesn't need to be cynical but he should atleast be a little more serious than what people expect. I just hope Silver will start getting treated like an adult because he is one.

I feel like Silver's behavior can be two ways, bad future and good future, Silver in 06 was bitter, mean and cocky because he saw his world end, but now that his world was saved, it's possible that this is Silver's TRUE personality, I think we're seeing Silver grow into his prior self (with limitations) due to years of dealing with hardships, he's becoming more cynical possibly, but not as cruel!

If SEGA and Sonic team delayed 06 to fully flesh it out, who knows where we would be right now. Silver probably would be better developed and a larger part of mainline games.

I do agree. I like Silver being curious, awkward, and abit weird in normal social settings. But I think most media takes that side of him too far. 06 is definitely my favourite version of him. He isn't stoic like Shadow, but he's much more serious and determined. I do sort of like when he has an aggressive side, like when he called Sonic a joke while fighting him,and when he tried punching Shadow in their fight. He's kind of like the halfway point of Sonic and Shadow in terms of personality. He has near Shadow level seriousness whenever there's a situation going on. But can also be easy going and funny like Sonic. When he got to the past and got dragged off by Amy, he's extremely awkward, but also helps her find the person she was looking for, even though he literally just met her,and he's in the middle of saving the world. But as soon as he sees Sonic,he goes in psychic blasts blazing. I do like the new direction IDW is going in with him. I just felt he hasn't been taken seriously lately. And I just find it insane how the fanbase   imagined him as a soft, goofy, and childish character so much that the actual writers eventually just turned him into that. I'm really hoping that the movies could do him justice. I've loved how they've done every character so far, so I'm counting on my favourite character getting the same treatment.

As bad as this is, it's hilarious how the Snapcube Fandub almost singlehandedly has changed how we perceive Silver

we desperately need more for Silver. what an amazing premise for such a well designed character and then POOF. nothing. it makes me sad

As a Silver fan I think the reason why the start of IDW Silver is positive all the time is because he is putting up an act around others, like Silver is all happy in the garden with everyone but when he steps out he is more negative with his emotions. I think IDW Silver is doing his arc in 06 all over again but in his own pace.

Oh my god, I'm so glad there's someone talking about this. I'm not expecting Silver to be this some sort of very serious and edgy character, but I don't want him to be seen as some sort of cinnamon roll. It makes him look like some sort of baby. But I've heard that Silver is written very well in the Archie comics and was not seen as a cinamon roll

Finally! Someone is talking about this! I love Silver even with how badly handled his writing is now a days I still love him. I've talked about before how much mispotential Silver had and how good of a character he could have been. It irritates me every time I see him lose a fight, KNOWING he could very well be one of, if not, the strongest character in the Sonic fandom if he was given a chance. It also slightly irritates me how so many people forget or just doesn't want to mention how Silver has psychic abilities and covers his power up by saying he's a pacifist now and ignores how he was morally gray before.

I really hope that if Sonic Movie 5 is a thing, Silver gets the same treatment that Shadow did in 2024, there's so much potential that's just left on the floor for the most part also most people's introduction to Silver probably wasn't even in a Sonic game, it was most likely from the Mario & Sonic Olympics, which should tell you a lot about the state of his character

I actually love Silver's '06 characterization. Man was born and raised in near-literal Hell on Earth: Of course he'd be more harsh, cold, goal-oriented... But also quick to latch onto someone like Blaze, or trust Mephiles. He's obviously lonely, and given his home, of course he'd grab any scrap of hope he could possibly find, no matter how sketchy. That said, I also enjoy the softer outings of Silver: He's one of those characters that you enjoy seeing happy, because the man honestly deserves it.
