Kirsten Stewart is one actress that does not care what the public thinks at least from what I have seen. And it's refreshing.

“let’s aim for something where every version of queer joy exists.” what a wonderful final line ❤🏳️⚧️

A good (opposite) example is Kristen Stewart - she used to dress very feminine back in her Twilight days... But then, now she's fully embraced her queerness and now dresses up both masculine and feminine!

Lately we had Dove Cameron, who did a queer coming out many years ago but didn't do a whole rebrand about it, talking about wanting a wedding dress that represents her queerness even if she's getting married to a man... and ppl on social media dog pilled on her for not being queer enough, like she didn't earn the right to call herself queer. Chappell Roan is also often called a fake lesbian for talking openly about her experiences with men in the past. I love how there's no good way to be queer but i hate how ppl tend to weaponize that at the same time 😖

CtrlAble here. What really stood out to me about this video is that you kept bringing the conversation back to systems rather than turning it into a purity test of individual people. That makes the whole argument way more compelling, because the pattern you’re describing is not really about whether one person is “authentic enough,” but about what kinds of identities the culture is willing to celebrate, monetize, and then quietly reshape into something safer. I also really appreciated the way you connected that to disability, because the pressure to become more legible, more comfortable, more marketable, and less “too much” is something disabled people know extremely well. From an accessibility and lived experience standpoint, that overlap matters a lot. The expectation that you soften yourself so others can process you more easily is not neutral. It changes how people present, how they survive, and sometimes how visible they feel allowed to be at all. This was a really smart, layered breakdown, and I think the point you end on is the one that sticks most: the real issue is not personal change, it is the system that keeps rewarding the most convenient version of identity.

Chris Fleming did a podcast with NPR a couple of weeks ago. He talked about how talent managers would meet with him and express interest in taking him on as a client but they wouldn't because they couldn't get past the fact that he wears "women's clothes". He didn't have a manager for 6 years because of this attitude.

i feel like ashnikko is a good example of a queer artist who's identity shifts from time to time but always maintains their queerness.

I can't help but wonder if guys like Bowie leapt back into the closet was because of AIDS. It's hard to overstate how terrifying it was in those days.

I think straight fear of AIDS gave rise to a new form of homophobia as well. A nastier, more intense homophobia.

As a Subaru queer, they have free badges that you can get for your Subaru and yes they have pride badges. It may be a little thing, but it still makes me happy

It's gotten so bad that I've noticed even cisgender but queer alt hyperfemmes are melting their styles down into just coquette and vintage fem while genderqueer and trans hyperfemmes are RAPIDLY disappearing. I feel so awful for my community but also those people that no longer feel safe to be here, anymore. I see you, my sisters and brothers, one day we'll be safe enough for us ALL to be brave. One day we won't even have to be brave anymore

"queerness WITH disability?" "Oh honey, that's just too much." I'm pretty sure I've said this to myself before 😂🤣😭
