I've beaten the entire campaign and never figured out on my own that you can have two arms holding a product at once, provided they don't try to move it in conflicting ways. Or rather, I intuited that it must be possible, but never found an application for that concept. But the larger thing I wanted to say was that I really like how you broke down the sort-of-ill-defined concept of "throughput" into its component ideas, rigorously defined them, and then walked through an immediate application for it. Great teaching.

Hey thank you for a really terrific rundown of this game's expected thought processes! I had just started and was feeling the burn of inefficiency, curious about how I should be thinking, and this put me on the right track. I loved that you graduated the thought processes linearly to show acceptable, valid methods, because by the time you arrive at your optimal state I really got it and also felt like I could start following these processes myself.

My problem is I never have trouble understanding the solution or any explanations/tips but when I am left to my own devices, I struggle to generate concepts or strategies. This video helped me because it gives me a list of things to check

I'm a little proud that I managed to figure out most of this in the span of a few days lol.
I've used track loops, but assumed I was essentially brute forcing rather than making elegant solutions (and in one case it did turn out to be overkill), and I didn't recognise the "staircase" concept as being the most intuitive way to think about it.
I understood it well enough to match the top 1% on the levels I've played so far but that's a really nice way of looking at it, especially for longer track loops (my longest one has been four track pieces so far).

Excellent video! I never knew track loops were so powerful in cycle optimization.

I've been so lost programming track loops, doing everything manually and losing my sanity adjusting things when the arms crash into each other. This way of thinking about programming them is super helpful!

I've been playing through the campaign and I'm 7 years late but this is still super helpful and eye opening! Especially the staircase method, which is so obvious in hindsight but I would've never come across by myself!!!

It also has some resemblance in physics: when you want to describe a wave, you use something like sin(ωt - kx + θ), which means that it takes time to travel, so when you wait some time then go some distance you can see the exact form of the wave there. It also can be derived from the formula that any positive offset in propagation is equivalent to a negative offset in time, that is, it started early so it already went further, and that is exactly what we see on the instruction track: the first [throughput] cycles has happened for the next arm on the track loop so its instructions actually *move forward in time*. That is just beautiful.

Both your tutorial videos provide awesome “level-up” moments and I wish you had created more! Maybe with the new DLC release there is hope you might return to Opus Magnum?

I think the recent video from GoodbyeGalaxy put a spotlight on the game for a lot of people that might never have heard of it before (like me), and might have brought in some new players that are hungry for content like this (again, like me).
