The ones that grow where I am at have yellow flowers and the fruit is a red. They are are sweet somewhat tart.

I have bought prickly pear with fruit already developing and eaten them, I find I need to rub off the splines with a rough cloth and then wash the broken bits off, I have also collected them in places like Greece, sometimes you get them in supermarkets. The ones I tried were perhaps a bit sweeter with ones I have grown I can never get them to flower a second time.
