13:20 funny how those people never go to the dentist and say "Ned down at the pub has pliers and some leftover roofing epoxy and he's quoted me less than half".

The councils should require that 10-20% of each install be paid into escrow and can only be released with council approval. Then, the council should spot check a few percent of installs. If all looks good, release the funds. If a number of problems are found, inspect a few more. Rinse and repeat.

I served an apprenticeship with the Yorkshire Electricity Board in the 60s. I eventually ended up with the status of Charted Engineer in the late 70s. Since I've been living in France I have encountered several solar panel installers with almost zero comprehension of the current standards or even basic design parameters. Several friends have been exploited by these people and have paid significant sums far poor installations - poor cabling, incompatible devices, inappropriate configurations, absence of regulatory paperwork. In this part of the world its a free for all for any cowboy to propose almost anything. This situation is significantly delaying the move to economical and ecological energy solutions.

Anyone who having seen the level of workmanship on this install thinks it is ok is probably working for someone who works at this level of quality.

The only thing that could make this owner interview better is if you held his hand. 😂😂

The issue here lies solely with MCS, not any Local Authority. MCS has been given unique status by Ofgem as the only organisation whose members can carry out installations that qualify for Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) payments and grants. This status has surely convinced Local Authorities that everything is above board and there's no need to double check any MCS accredited business. The biggest problem (there are many) with MCS is that it allows its accredited members to sub-contract all the work out to non-accredited installers. The accredited member only needs to have a single Nominated Technical Person (NTP) that is responsible for an unlimited number of installations. There isn't any quality control carried during or post-installation. quality

I was a self-employed Electrician for some years, the only questions I remember are 'how much' and 'how quickly' and "haven't you finished that yet "

I was asked for the completion payment before the scaffolding was removed. I refused to pay until it was removed. They removed it the very next day.!!!!

Dreadful install overall. However, your points about oversizing of the PV are not entirely correct. A Growatt SPH 3000 is essentially a 6kW inverter, limited to 3kW on the AC side, being able to charge the batteries at 3kW simultaneously. It goes for all inverters, as long as you stay within the MPPT specifications for open circuit voltage (550V on this inverter) and accounting for 15-20% voltage increase in freezing temperatures, do yourself and your customers the favour and add as many panels as possible. Especially now that panels are so cheap, and we have so many cloudy days in Northern Europe.
