  I am 75years old. &nbsp;But i would like to tell you about my Dear Gran. &nbsp;She was born a Victorian, her husband killed in the First World, &nbsp;a son killed in the second world war. She had 6 children and widowed before 30 years old. <br> She took in washing, &nbsp;mended clothes, &nbsp;etc ,to feed her children, &nbsp;my mum went into service at 13 years old. &nbsp;<br> My gran became the person every one came to, for child birth, &nbsp;and the died and dying. <br> Until 1948, then she was taken on by the Doctor&apos;s surgery, &nbsp;she became Official, &nbsp;she Became the District Nurse, &nbsp;after some training. &nbsp;She was the Very Best Grand<br> mother , anyone could have had. &nbsp;She died when I was 18 ,5 day&apos;s after my 18th birthday. <br> &nbsp;I miss her still, &nbsp;and talk to her picture every day. &nbsp;<br> &nbsp;She helped all her family, &nbsp;and never complained. <br> Just a wonderful Lady, because that is what she was. ❤

  In the 1960s, my grandmother, born about 1900, referred to St Mary&apos;s Hospital, Kettering as &quot;The Workhouse&quot; - which it had been until 1935.

  My Grandmother was born in 1896 she was the eldest daughter in a family of 8 children, her father was ill with pneumonia and couldn&apos;t work for a long time, my great grandmother had paid sixpence a week for medical care if her husband was ill, during the time he was ill there was no money coming to feed the family, my grandmother was about 12 and her sister perhaps about ten, to earn some money, her mother and these two sister worked from home, their job was to sew buttons onto a card to be sold in shops, the got one old penny for sewing a gross of buttons on a card a gross is 144 cards with 12 buttons on each card.

  My father was born, &nbsp;illegitimate, &nbsp;in 1918<br> When he was weaned at 6 months his father took responsibility for him and took dad home to his wife and children who were all in their early 20s. He was so short sighted that he had to attend a school for deaf, dumb and blind children. <br>His stepmother, &nbsp;apparently, &nbsp;refused to pay for spectacles for him even though they could afford to. &nbsp;Throughout his childhood and early working life his spectacles were paid for by the Catholic convent where the school was housed.<br>O was told this by Sister Vincent who was my fathers teacher throughout his school life. Wonderful woman and it broke my heart when she died when I was 26 . I still miss her.

  Great story, but poorly cobbled together with too many American references. &nbsp;AI has got a long way to go before it&apos;s worth having.
