  So I’ve seen a lot on pocket holes as an option as well as the use of dowels. But recently pocket hole dowel joints, where dowels are added instead of the pocket hole screws…. Though it was interesting. Definitely going to try it out.<br>Great video!!

  Great video! You don’t have to worry about the fence in your half laps since they’re not through-cuts; there’s no off cut to kick back at you.

  I have a different opinion on rabbet joints. Only on the ends. <br>I prefer to make the rabbet cuts a tiny bit wider than needed. Then after assembly I use a router and a flush trim bit to make it flush and pretty. <br><br>And in solid wood and disagree that miter joints are very weak. There are channels where they tested various joints and miter came out pretty darn strong. <br><br>Happy sawdust making. 😊

  I recently built a covered pergola and an awning using several of these joints. I had to cut them out by hand using an old japanese pull saw. A neighbour suggested lap joints instead of butt joints. Considering I had little to no clue what I was doing with such joints, the end results were quite impressive. I could have done with seeing this video before I started building, but at least now I know what these joints are called! Thanks for the clear demonstrations!

  You&apos;re the only other person (IRL or online) with that newer Kreg dowel jig. I have mixed feelings about it, but overall it&apos;s pretty good. I got half of it free thru Amazon Vine (I got the half inch addition, but I didn&apos;t realize it wouldn&apos;t work without the $50 primary jig to attach it to, so I bought the main kit with the 1/4&quot; and 3/8&quot; sleeves.) It is faster than some I&apos;ve used, maybe slightly less precise, but it definitely works. Thanks for the info!
