  Sanguinius really was the best of the primarchs. A true angel and exemplar of humanity in such a grim universe. When he passed, the soul of the Imperium and what it could’ve been, died with him.

  I&apos;m aware that you&apos;re a noobie so I don&apos;t know if you have context, but the speaker is Sanguinius of the Blood Angels. He is a Primarch and the 9th son of the Emperor. <br><br>The speech takes place during the Horus Heresy, that giant war where half the Emperor&apos;s sons gets corrupted by Chaos and they turn on their father. This is the final battle before Horus is killed, known as &quot;The Siege of Terra&quot;. Sanguinius is currently on Terra defending the Imperial Palace where inside, the Emperor sits trapped on the Golden Throne holding closed a daemonic portal. The reason the speech is so dour is because they are literally standing on the final wall before the traitors reach the gates of the Imperial Palace, and beyond that is the helpless Emperor. In the book this was one of the most desperate battles of the entire Siege of Terra. If you look at the image, check behind the wings of Sanguinius. You see that giant gate? That&apos;s what they were defending. He&apos;s fighting tooth and nail to hold the traitors back long enough to keep it closed, because if the traitors get inside it&apos;s game over.<br><br>That&apos;s what this speech is. It&apos;s one more hail Mary, it&apos;s the final stand, and it&apos;s the last bullet in the magazine. In short, it was the absolute defintion of now or never. That&apos;s why it was so beautiful when after asking the question, even though they were scared to death, no one ran. Even knowing they were all about to die...

  When you have context and the lore, this speech is even more epic. No one ran. In the book, everyone shouted in unison “no”. <br>Like, just imagine being a regular guardsman. No special powers, augmentations, or weapons. You’ve been fighting non stop for over 200 days against an enemy that you could legitimately only ever imagine in your nightmares. There are legit greater demons walking around Terra at that moment. The enemy is at the gates and your morale is nonexistent. This is the end. <br>Then this winged angel. A literal demigod son of the Emperor of your entire species, tells you that not only is he proud of you and that you’ve earned his respect, but that what you thought was the weakest part of you (your raw humanity) is the ONLY thing keeping him there to stay and fight and die. This is a man who you’ve been raised to view and seen as almost a god. And yet, his half humanity is what he credits as the thing that’s keeping him courageous enough to stay. He tells you to run, not in shame, but with your head held high, because you’ve impressed him so much, that he wants you to flee and spend your last moments trying to get away with your family. <br><br>Yea. I wouldn’t be able to leave him either. I’d be terrified, no doubt. But my shame would outweigh my fear. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself.

  Blood angels have been my favorite for years, I didn’t know much about them until I started reading books and found out that the best of the Primarch’s were the leader of my faction.<br><br>Also, everyone that was there for that speech did not run. Not a single one

  So some extra context for this: This is towards the end of the Siege of Terra, the climax of the Horus Heresy. The Imperium is losing BAD. After about 200 days of fighting, they&apos;re on their last leg and have been pushed back to the last wall between the forces of Chaos (Demons, Chaos Space Marines) and the Emperor himself, who is busy holding reality together. Reinforcements are trying to arrive to help, but the Chaos Gods have created a bubble around the solar system so that no one can get in from the outside. After this speech, not a single person, be it space marine or a normal human infantry, abadoned their post, fighting with Sanguinius. Sanguinius was right that his death was coming soon, as shortly after this speech, he would fight Horus, who would end up killing him.
