Gotta respect Nintendo, keeping some of their old consoles on life support so the owners of them don’t get left behind.

In Pokémon Black & White’s defense

They were in development as early as 2008 and released in 2010 in Japan. It only released that late everywhere else.

When I heard "the DS ran out of steam around 2008 or so" that took me back because some of my favorite games on the system came out around that time or after: The World Ends With You, Rhythm Heaven, all the best Pokemon mainline games (platinum, HG/SS, BW, BW2) and spin-offs like Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky and Conquest (and Ranger Shadows of Almia), the professor layton games, Kirby Super Star Ultra, Bowser's Inside Story, Ghost Trick, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, 999, Sonic Colors, the Megaman Starforce trilogy (especially the third games), etc. This is excluding remakes like FFIV and Chrono Trigger. What is Scott on about? The system STARTED gaining steam in the late 2000's onwards.

Yes I'm aware he means for first party titles, but that's a clarification he made afterwards, so I still feel like my comment is warranted.

Hot take: Nintendo supporting their old consoles at the same time as their recently released consoles was a good thing actually.

Nintendo Switch in 3-5 years will refuse to die as well mark my words. You don't just abandon 150 million consoles sold overnight.

The last 3+ years of each handheld's era basically made it's best content all the time. The launch year was always "look at what we did on a handheld!!" And then the following years were everyone actually figuring out what the heck they were doing with the hardware

I think Scott underestimates how many people hang on to the old hardware for as long as they can, for financial reasons or otherwise. For as long as I've been playing games, I've never been able to afford upgrades immediately. I welcome the releases for old hardware lol
